New Maruti Suzuki Baleno Mileage Figures Announced: Here Is Detailed Comparison With Segment Rivals
Maruti Suzuki launched the new Baleno in India with prices starting at Rs 6.35 lakh, ex-showroom. The brand has also revealed the ARAI mileage figures for the 2022 Baleno for manual and automatic variants.
New Baleno Mileage Figures
The New Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre DualJet K12N naturally aspirated petrol engine paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The manual variant is rated to return a mileage of 22.35kmpl. While the new AMT gearbox is rated to return a fuel-efficiency figure of 22.94kmpl, which is slightly better than its manual counterpart.
Maruti Suzuki took a bold step and discontinued the CVT automatic offered on the pre-facelift model. With the gearbox, the company also discontinued the mild-hybrid petrol technology on the petrol engine.
Old Vs New Mileage Figure Comparison
As mentioned earlier the old Baleno was offered with two petrol engine options: 1.2-liter NA mild-hybrid and 1.2-liter NA non-mild-hybrid. The mild-hybrid engine was offered with a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic. While the non-hybrid engine was offered with a 5-speed manual as standard.
Here is a quick comparison of fuel-efficiency figures between the new and the old Baleno
New Baleno Vs Old Baleno | ||
Fuel Economy (ARAI) | New Baleno | Old Baleno |
Manual | 22.35 kmpl | 21.01 kmpl / 23.87 kmpl (hybrid) |
Automatic | 22.94 kmpl (AMT) | 19.56 kmpl (CVT) |
The manual variant of the new Baleno has seen a drop in mileage figures as compared to the old model by around 1.5kmpl. This could be due to the missing mild-hybrid technology. Comparing the automatic variants, the new AMT offers better fuel efficiency as compared to the CVT model by 3kmpl.
Segment Rivals Mileage Figure Comparison
Maruti Suzuki claims the new Baleno to be the most fuel-efficient car in its segment. The Baleno rivals the Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo. Here is a comparison of mileage figures among these premium hatchback models.
New Baleno Vs Rivals | |||||
Fuel Efficiency (ARAi) | New Baleno | Hyundai i20 (NA/Turbo) | Tata Altroz (NA/Turbo) | VW Polo TSI | Honda Jazz |
Manual | 22.34 kmpl | 20.35 / 20.25 kmpl | 19.05 / 18.13 kmpl | 18.24 kmpl | 16.6 kmpl |
Automatic | 22.94 kmpl | 19.65 / 20.25 kmpl | - | 16.47 kmpl | 17.1 kmpl |
From the above table, it is clear that Baleno has a clear advantage in fuel-efficiency numbers due to its start-stop technology. With the addition of a fuel-efficient AMT gearbox, the automatic mileage figures of the Baleno is far superior compared to its segment rivals.
The Hyundai i20 is the closest competitor in terms of mileage figures to the Baleno. The i20 returns over 2kmpl lesser than the Baleno in both manual and automatic variants. However, the i20 does get a superior CVT and DCT automatic gearbox as compared to Baleno's AMT.
Tata Altroz is offered with only a manual gearbox, which does return a mileage of over 3kmpl lesser than the Baleno's manual variant. The VW Polo and the Honda Jazz are the least fuel-efficient cars according to the analysis. They return over 4kmpl and 6kmpl lesser as compared to the Baleno, respectively.
The Baleno is offered as a petrol-only model unlike the i20 and the Altroz, which are offered with a diesel engine in the BS6 era. The diesel engine mileage figure on both models is rated to return over 25kmpl, which is superior to Baleno's petrol fuel-efficiency numbers.
It is to be noted that all the fuel-efficiency figures mentioned in the article are as rated by ARAI and not under real-test conditions. Looking for more prices for the new Baleno? Here are all the details.
