Indian automotive manufacturer Mahindra has stated that it has received over 70,000 bookings for the new XUV700 in the one month since the SUV went on sale.

The carmaker recently started delivering the new Mahindra XUV700 to customers. Among the new owners was Paralympic Gold Medalist Sunil Antil who received a special XUV700 Gold Edition to commemorate his record breaking Gold medal performance at the recently concluded Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Mahindra is currently delivering the petrol variants of the XUV700. Diesel powered versions of the SUV will start reaching customers at the end of November.

The Mahindra XUV700 was launched last month at an introductory price of Rs 11.99 lakhs. However, the current Mahindra XUV700 currently starts from Rs 12.79 lakhs.

The Mahindra XUV700 is offered with two engine options — 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel. The turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine found in the XUV700 produces 197bhp at 5,000rpm and 380Nm of peak torque at just 1,750rpm. The petrol XUV700 is offered with either manual or torque converter automatic transmission options (both are 6-speed units).

The DOHC 2.2-litre diesel engine offered with the XUV700 cranks out 153bhp at 3,750rpm and a mighty 420Nm of peak torque at just 1,500rpm. Like its petrol sibling, the diesel XUV700 is offered with 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox options. The torque figure of the XUV700 diesel automatic is higher at 450Nm.

Mahindra claims that the XUV700 petrol will accelerate from 0-60km/h in 5 seconds and when we tested the engine showed off its linear power delivery. The XUV700 retains the essence of the old XUV500's looks but Mahindra has added quite a few tweaks to make the new SUV unique. These features include the new grille design with the all-new Mahindra logo being displayed prominently in the centre. The new LED DRLs do bring back memories of the old XUV500.

The major styling points of the Mahindra XUV700 when viewed from the sides are the blacked-out pillars and the flush door handles and the multi-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels. The rear of the SUV sports wraparound split taillights and a spoiler as well as the new logo in the centre.

The XUV700 is offered in both five and seven-seater guises. The interior of the XUV700 is dominated by the glass slab that contains the dual 10.25-inch displays for instrumentation and infotainment.

The infotainment display is a touchscreen unit that offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The SUV also features Amazon Alexa integration for voice commands. The XUV700 also sports a 12-speaker Sony audio system for all the music lovers out there.
