Top-Selling Cars In India For January 2020: Kia Seltos Regains Best-Selling SUV Title
The list of the top-10 best-selling cars in India for the month of January 2020 has been released. The list of best-selling cars showcases Maruti Suzuki continuing its domination, occupying the top-five of the ten slots. Among them, the Maruti Dzire sedan comes out on top, registering the highest sales last month.
Here are the top-10 best-selling cars in India for the month of January 2020:
Maruti Suzuki Dzire
The Maruti Dzire compact-sedan has registered the highest sales in the country during the last month. The sedan registered 22,406 units of sales in January 2020; a 17% growth compared to the same month last year when it recorded 19,073 units.
The Maruti Dzire has been consistently in the top-five every month over the last couple of years; even occupying the top-slot on multiple occasions. The Maruti Dzire competes against the likes of the Honda Amaze and the Volkswagen Ameo in the Indian market.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno
The Maruti Baleno is the brand's premium hatchback offering in the Indian market. The car recorded sales of 20,485 units last month; a growth of 23% over that of January 2019 when it registered 16,717 units of sales.
The Maruti Baleno is a popular premium hatchback offering in the Indian market, with very little competition from its rivals, such as the Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo and the Honda Jazz. However, with the recent launch of the Tata Altroz, the Baleno could finally get a tough opponent in the coming months.
Maruti Suzuki Swift
The Maruti Suzuki Swift comes in third registering 19,981 units of sales. The Maruti Swift currently in its third-generation iteration has remained one of the most popular hatchbacks in the country.
Compared to January 2019, the sales of the Maruti Swift has improved by 6% from 18,795 units. Maruti Suzuki is also said to be working on a hybrid version of the Swift, which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and is expected to arrive in the Indian market sometime this year.
Maruti Suzuki Alto
The Maruti Alto entry-level hatchback has long remained one of the best-selling models in the Indian market. However, the hatchback dropped in yearly sales from 23,360 units in January 2019 to 18,914 units in the previous month; a 19% drop in sales.
Maruti Suzuki recently updated the Alto to comply with the upcoming BS6 emission norms, which did increase prices of the hatchback slightly. The Maruti Alto rivals the likes of the Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-GO in the Indian market.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR
The Maruti WagonR seems to have gained a lot of ground in the Indian market in terms of yearly sales. The tall-boy hatchback registered a massive 52% growth between January 2019 and last month. The WagonR sale grew from 10,048 units in January 2019 to 15,232 unit in the previous month.
The Maruti WagonR is popular for its tall boy design, which offers excellent space. The introduction of the new-generation hatchback in 2019 also brought in a number of updates, both in terms of design and interior features; making it an even attractive package.
