Tata Hornbill (H2X) SUV And Altroz To Share Components — Allow Competitive Pricing For Both Models
Tata Motors is all set to launch its first premium hatchback offering in the Indian market, sometime ahead of the festive season this year. The Tata Altroz was first showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor show earlier this year.
Tata Motors also recently confirmed the launch of the H2X (internally codenamed ‘Hornbill) for the Indian market. The production-spec version of the all-new micro-SUV is expected to make its debut at the upcoming 2020 Auto Expo in February.
Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors has now stated in an interview with Fortune India has stated that both the H2X and the Altroz will share at least 70 per cent of the components. The two new models are part of the same ‘ALFA' architecture from Tata Motors, making it easy for the company to allow component sharing as well.
Tata currently has two new platform: ALFA and OMEGA. The ALFA platform will be used for all models in the 3.7 to 4.2-metre category. While all the models above 4.5-metres will fall under the OMEGA architecture.
The Tata Altroz will be the first product in the Indian market with the ‘ALFA' platform. The OMEGA platform has already been introduced in the Indian market with the launch of the Harrier SUV.
The Tata Hornbill will be the second model to be part of the ‘ALFA' platform and is expected to go on sale sometime in mid-2020.
All three models will also be part of the company's new design language, the "Impact 2.0'; which first debuted with the Harrier.
Although both the Altroz and the Hornbill will share over 70 per cent of the components. They will come with distinct styling and features. The Alroz will take on rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo and the Honda Jazz in the market.
The Tata H2X, on the other hand, will take on rivals such as the Mahindra KUV100 NXT, Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.
Thoughts On The Tata H2X & Altroz Component Sharing
Both the Tata Hornbill (H2X) and Altroz are the latest product offerings from the brand in India. The company is currently said to be on a product offensive, with four new launches scheduled for the upcoming year.
