Honda City Base ‘S’ Variant Discontinued — Starting Price Now Rs 9.75 Lakh
Honda City variant discontinued. Honda Cars India has discontinued the base ‘S’ variant of the City sedan from the Indian lineup. The Honda City now comes with a starting price of Rs 9.75 lakh.
Honda Cars India has discontinued the base 'S' variant of their popular City sedan in the Indian market. The Honda City was initially available in: S, SV, V, VX and ZX trim levels. However, with the 2019 update, Honda has removed the base 'S' variant, making the 'SV' trim the new base variant for the sedan.
With the removal of the base 'S' variant of the City sedan, the starting price has also increased from the earlier Rs 8.77 lakh price tag to Rs 9.75 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom (Delhi).
Apart from the changes to the variant list, the Honda City remains unchanged otherwise. Honda also recently launched a manual transmission option for their top-spec ZX variant. The new Honda City ZX MT variant comes with a price tag of Rs 12.75 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi).
The top-spec 'ZX' variant was previously available with just the CVT transmission option. The addition of the new manual transmission for the top-end trim is due to the popular demand from customers.
Apart from the changes made to the overall variant lineup, Honda has also introduced two new exterior paint schemes for the City sedan: Radiant red Metallic and Lunar Silver Metallic.
All variants of the Honda City are available with two engine options — 1.5-litre i-VTEC and 1.5-litre i-DTEC. The 1.5-litre petrol engine churns out 117bhp and 145Nm of torque while the 1.5-litre diesel produces 99bhp and 200Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox, with the higher-spec variants getting the optional six-speed CVT transmission as well.
The Honda City offers a number of features including LED headlamps, LED DRLs, sunroof, airbags, sunroof and large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; to name a few.
Thoughts On The Honda City Variant Discontinuation
The current-generation Honda City was first launched in 2014 and later received a mild facelift in 2017. The City is one of the most popular mid-size sedan offerings in the Indian market from the carmaker and rivals the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Honda is currently planning to bring in the Civic nameplate back to the Indian market, sometime later this year.
