Ford Ecosport BS-VI Spied Testing Ahead Of Debut At 2020 Auto Expo: Spy Pics & Details
American auto manufacturer Ford, is gearing up to release their BS-VI compliant models in India by next year. Ahead of its launch the EcoSport compact-SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads.
The spy pic from Rushlane reveal a current-gen XUV500 test mule equipped with emission equipment for testing the pollution coming out the BS-VI engine. The company has confirmed earlier that they will be updating their current diesel engines to BS-VI standards.
Ford is currently offering the EcoSport compact-SUV with three engine options: a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 121bhp, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine churning out 123bhp, and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with a power output of 100bhp.
The company has confirmed that they will carry forward their diesel engines to make it BS-VI compliant. However, with the upcoming model of the EcoSport the company has confirmed to stop production of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine in India, due to low sales figures.
The transmission options on the current-gen EcoSport include, a five-speed manual gearbox with the 1.5 litre diesel and petrol engine, and an optional six-speed automatic unit offered with the petrol engine.
The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine comes paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. With the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine being discontinued, the company could offer six-speed manual transmission as standard on the upcoming model.
Ford is also likely to replace the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine with the Mahindra's 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, that is featured on the company's TUV300 compact-SUV model. This would be a direct result of the joint venture (JV) between Mahindra and Ford which was announced earlier this month. The JV between both the brands will also add several models to the Indian line-up from Mahindra and Ford as well.
The Ford EcoSport has been around since 2013 in India, and is one of the oldest models in the segment. The compact-SUV has been successful in India with high sales numbers registered in the past for the company. However, the EcoSport is placed in the highly competitive compact-SUV segment in India, and is in need of a complete overhaul.
The upcoming model when launched will rival the likes of Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Mahindra TUV300, Tata Nexon and the Maruti Suzuki Vitarra Brezza in the India market. Manu of the EcoSport rivals is also scheduled for an update next year including the Tata Nexon.
Thoughts About The EcoSport BS-VI Spied
Ford EcoSport has been the company's best seller, and with the upcoming emission norms deadline the company will look to make the compact-SUV BS-VI compliance soon. We sure hope the company will also take this opportunity to update the compact-SUV in India as well. The auto manufacturer's race to achieve BS-VI compliance with their models is reaching its mid-stage in the country. We are seeing a lot of manufacture are gearing up to launch their BS-VI models with continuously testing their models in the country.
