Toyota Yaris crosses 5,000 bookings mark, waiting period for the new sedan offering now increases to two months.
Toyota launched the Yaris officially in India last week. This is the first C-segment sedan offering from Toyota. The Yaris has a starting price of Rs 8.75 lakh for the base variant, while the top-end spec is priced at Rs 14.07 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom (India).
Toyota started accepting bookings for the Yaris from April. Deliveries of the car began on the day of its launch, with almost 1000 units being handed over to the customer in a single day.
The Yaris will be manufactured at Toyota's Bidadi plant in Karnataka. The production of the car will take place along with the company's other offerings: Etios, Corolla, Camry, Fortuner and the Innova Crysta. For the Yaris, Toyota has increased investment in the plant, allowing 85 percent localised production.
The new Toyota Yaris is available in four trims: J, G, V and VX. All trims will draw power from the same 1.5-litre dual VVT-i petrol engine. This engine produces 108bhp and 140Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed CVT gearbox. The CVT gearbox is available for all variants of the Toyota Yaris.
The new Toyota Yaris comes with a host of features, many of which are segment first options. These include a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control, roof-mounted AC vents and paddle shifters on the CVT version.
The new Yaris comes in a range of six colour options: Wildfire Red, Phantom Brown, Grey Metallic, Super White, Pearl White and Silver Metallic.
The Toyota Yaris take on rivals such as the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz.
