Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch its new luxury SUV in the Indian market. The new luxury seven-seater SUV is a rebadged SsangYong Rexton G4 which was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018. Now, the SUV has been spotted testing in India and it looks like the launch is imminent.
Mahindra is yet to reveal the official name of the SUV, but the company is expected to go with the XUV700 moniker due to the popularity of XUV500 in India. The XUV700 will be a rebadged version of the Rexton G4 and will feature subtle changes to suit the Indian conditions.
The previous generation Rexton was sold under the SsangYong brand name and the SUV failed to attract the Indian buyers. Now, Mahindra has decided to retail the SUV as the company is popular for its SUVs in the country. We expect the XUV700 to be a hit in the Indian market.
The Mahindra XUV700 will be a seven-seater SUV and will draw power from a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 178bhp and 420Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox sourced from Mercedes-Benz.
Mahindra is expected to offer both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive system on the XUV700. Thanks to its high ground clearance, the XUV700 can handle off-roading pretty well. But Mahindra will not brand the XUV700 as a hardcore off-roader, instead, it will be a luxury SUV which is capable of handling short off-road patches.
The interior of the Mahindra XUV700 is expected to be luxurious with all the bells and whistles. The cabin will feature a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, a sunroof and much more.
The safety features of the new Mahindra XUV700 include seven airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, electronic stability program, hill hold assist and reverse parking camera with sensors.
Thoughts On The New Mahindra XUV700
Mahindra is known for its SUVs in the Indian market and the company will further strengthen its position with the introduction of the XUV700. The Mahindra XUV700 will be a luxurious seven-seater SUV locking horns with the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
Mahindra is likely to launch the XUV700 in India by the end of 2018 with a price tag of around Rs 25 lakh.
