Mahindra XUV700 India Launch Reportedly Scheduled In The Next Three Months
Mahindra is expected to launch their new flagship SUV, the XUV700 in India, sometime within the next three months. The new premium SUV offering from Mahindra is based on the Ssangyong Rexton and was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The car has already been spotted testing in India on multiple occasions, ahead of its launch.
In an interview with ET Auto, Rajan Wadhera, Executive Vice-President, R&D, and Global Product Development, stated "One of the products that we'll be launching, the G-4 version of erstwhile ‘Rexton' is a completely new platform which will come from Ssangyong and that will also be launched in two to three months from now."
This new SUV will be placed above the existing XUV500. Mahindra is also planning to launch two other products in the Indian market along with the XUV700: a compact-SUV codenamed the S201 and the Marazzo MPV. All three models are expected to launch in India, by the end of 2018.
The new Mahindra XUV700 will be powered by a 2.2-litre, turbo-diesel engine. This engine will churn out a maximum of 180bhp and a peak torque of 420Nm at 1,500 to 2,500rpm. The engine will further come mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic transmission. A part-time 4WD system will also be on offer.
The Mahindra XUV700 is based on the company's body-on-frame platform. The SUV is said to come with a long wheelbase measuring 2,865mm.
The XUV700 will come with automatic LED headlamps, Daytime Running Lights and LED tail lamps. It will also feature five-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels and a powered tailgate.
The feature list also includes an electric sunroof, ventilated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electric parking brake, nine airbags and much more.
Inside, the new SUV could feature a slightly different steering wheel design, along with a new colour scheme. We are hoping that most of the XUV700's design will stay true to its concept. The upcoming SUV will also offer three rows of seats, suitable for six to seven passengers.
The Mahindra XUV700 once launched will go up against the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Isuzu MU-X. Although the pricing of the upcoming SUV is yet to be revealed, we can expect it to be around Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom.
Thoughts On The Mahindra XUV700
To give it an edge over its rivals, Mahindra is expected to price their new SUV competitively, while still offering a host of features. Also, the high capacity 2.2-litre diesel engine developed by Ssangyong will give a smooth driving experience.
