South Korean automaker Kia Motors is all set to enter the Indian market at the Auto Expo 2018. Previously we had reported about the upcoming Kia cars and SUVs. Now, Kia has teased a new SUV, the SP concept which will make its global premiere at the biggest auto show in the country. Apart from the concept model, the automaker will also showcase 16 other global models.
The new Kia SP Concept is a compact SUV which will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster. Kia states that the concept model is inspired by the Indian heritage and driven by advanced technology. The Kia SP Concept will be revealed on February 7, 2018, at the Auto Expo alongside other 16 models from the company's global lineup.
The unveiling of the SP Concept SUV suggests that Kia's first product in the Indian market could be an SUV. The SP Concept features a striking design with flowing lines across the body and is shod with alloy wheels. From the side profile, the SUV looks similar to the Range Rover Evoque.
The rear profile of the Kia SP Concept features a sleek LED tail lights and the prominent chrome strip running across the tailgate. Kia has not revealed any technical details about the new model, but we expect it to feature both petrol and diesel engine options.
The Kia SP Concept is likely to be launched in the Indian market by 2019, and the compact SUV will be manufactured in India at the company's Anantapur production facility in Andhra Pradesh. With the compact SUV segment rapidly growing in India, we think that the SP Concept will be a perfect product for Kia to begin its India innings.
Apart from the SP Concept SUV, Kia will also showcase several other models from its global product portfolio which will include the Picanto hatchback, Rio premium hatchback, Sportage SUV, Cerato sedan, Optima premium sedan, Sorento full-size SUV and the sporty Stinger sedan.
Along with the models mentioned above, Kia will also display a wide range of electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and other vehicles. The South Korean automaker is aiming to replicate the global success in India, one of the fastest growing markets in the world.
DriveSpark's Thoughts On The Kia SP Concept SUV
The Kia SP Concept is a compact SUV which will be an ideal vehicle for the Indian conditions. With the popularity of the compact SUVs, Kia might have decided to develop an all-new SUV for the Indian market. We expect the SP Concept to be launched in its production avatar by 2019. And with the local production, we expect the SUV to be priced aggressively and will lock horns with the likes of Renault Duster and the segment-leader Hyundai Creta.
