Ford EcoSport Four-Wheel-Drive Variant Spotted Testing In India
The Ford EcoSport has been one of the best-selling compact SUVs in the Indian market. The facelifted EcoSport was introduced recently with styling updates. Now, IAB has spotted the Ford EcoSport four-wheel-drive variant being tested on Indian roads.
Yes, the Ford EcoSport four-wheel-drive model was spotted near Pondicherry. The spotted model is a mid-spec SE variant, and it is an export-spec model. Currently, Ford exports the EcoSport to several foreign markets such as the United States. Ford also exports the four-wheel-drive petrol variant of the compact SUV.
The Ford EcoSport four-wheel-drive model draws power from a more powerful 2-litre petrol engine churning out 163bhp and 202Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as standard. The variant is also offered in the US market which is exported from India.
On the design front, the Ford EcoSport four-wheel-drive features the number plate holder on the tailgate and does not get a spare wheel while the India-spec model features a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The rear of the compact SUV also gets SE and 4WD badging.

The new Ford EcoSport debuted the new 1.5-litre three-cylinder, Dragon series petrol engine that produces 120bhp and 150Nm of torque. The petrol engine is mated to a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. Recently, Ford also introduced the popular 1-litre EcoBoost petrol engine producing 125bhp and 170Nm of torque.
The diesel version of the Ford EcoSport draws power from a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine churning out 98.6bhp and 215Nm of torque. All variants of the Ford EcoSport sold in India are front-wheel-drive. The EcoSport is one of the best-selling cars for Ford in the Indian market.

The Ford EcoSport four-wheel-drive variant spotted in India is an export-spec model and Ford might be testing the new variant of the SUV. If Ford launched the more power 4WD version of the EcoSport in India, it will definitely find takers. Currently, there are no four-wheel-drive compact SUVs in the Indian market and Ford EcoSport could be the first 4WD compact SUV.
