Volkswagen May Stop Production Of Its Iconic Car
Volkswagen will kill the production of the iconic Beetle as the company is taking measures to cut costs owing to the Diesel Gate scandal.
Sadly, yes. The Beetle will no more be manufactured, and the reason is Volkswagen's Diesel Gate scandal. As per reports by Autocar, the VW Beetle and the Scirocco will see their last days, thanks to the Diesel Gate goof up.

During Volkswagen's 2017 annual session, brand board member Arno Antlitz broke the news to the audience when asked if the Beetle platform will be replaced. He said, "The Beetle and Scirocco are representatives of an emotional and appealing class of vehicles, but it [VW product planning] is not always about continuing cars from one generation to the next."

The iconic Volkswagen Beetle may be one of the most famous cars in history for Volkswagen, but it is also the slowest selling. In 2016, only 25,127 units of the Beetle were sold.

Taking into consideration the cost-cutting measures the German carmaker had to take, it makes sense to kill the slowest-selling vehicles first. Volkswagen, however, will not kill the convertible as it sells better than its hard-top counterpart.
