Tata's Upcoming Compact Sedan — The Tigor — Five Things You Should Know
The Tata Tigor is distinctively designed and will be the cheapest compact sedan in India.
Tata Motors is relishing the success of the Tiago hatchback in India. The company's new approach to its IMPACT design philosophy is indeed reaping benefits.

The second vehicle to be launched with the same philosophy was the Hexa, and the initial response has been good with nearly 1,500 units being sold in the first month. The third model to be launched under the new approach is the compact sedan - Tigor.
Here are five things you should know about the new car from the company.

Name
The concept car came with the moniker 'Kite 5'; later there were multiple reports that it will either be called Altigo or Viago, in sync with the name Tiago. Eventually, Tigor (pronounced Tee-gor) was chosen over the other two names.

Design
While we know about body styles of four-wheelers such as hatchbacks, notchbacks, sedans, coupe, among others, the Tigor is referred as a 'Styleback'. The term is the company's invention, but it can be classified under the notchback body style. The design has a distinct angle of the rear window with the car's more horizontal roofline and its boot lid.

Price
The Tata Tigor will be positioned below the Tata Zest, which is currently the cheapest sedan in India. The Tigor is expected to take the tag of the most affordable sedan in India from the Zest and will be priced at Rs 4 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh when launched.

Features
One of the reasons for the success of the Tata Tiago is its features. Based on the same platform as the Tiago, the Tigor will come loaded with features such as different driving modes, 2-DIN infotainment system by Harman and JBL speakers, along with connectivity features such as Bluetooth, USB and AUX-in. Also, the Tigor will be equipped with driver's airbag as an option.

Engine Specifications And Gearbox
Tata Motors is expected to power the Tigor with the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine and 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel engines as the Tiago. The engines were designed and optimised with the assistance of AVL Austria, a global engine consultant, and key technology partners - Bosch, Honeywell and INA.
The 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard across variants with both the engine options. There is a possibility that Tata Motors may also launch the AMT option in the petrol model.
