Japanese automaker Suzuki revealed the first-gen Jimny at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show. Now, the second-generation of the SUV is all set to make its global debut.
The second-gen Jimny will be showcased at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in October. The new SUV has been already revealed in the leaked images.
In the Global market, the Jimny replaced the Suzuki Samurai which was sold as Gypsy in India. The new-gen SUV is built on a body-on-frame architecture, and the overall design is similar to the previous model.
The leaked images of the new Jimny revealed the boxy styling. The front fascia of the SUV features vertical five-slat grille, chunky bumper and round fog lamps on either side. The plastic cladding on the wheel arches gives it a muscular look.
The Jimny will be revealed as a three-door SUV, and a five-door model is also expected to be showcased. The top-spec models will be equipped with alloy wheels and dual-tone paint scheme.
The interior of the new Jimny is modern with touchscreen infotainment display. The steering wheel and air vents are identical to the upcoming new Swift hatchback. The Jimny is likely to be offered with a range of petrol engines.
The engine options on the new Jimny is likely to include a 660cc turbocharged petrol, 1-litre Boosterjet petrol and a 1.2-litre dualjet petrol engine. There is no word on the diesel variant yet. The Jimny will also get Suzuki's AllGrip Pro system, an advanced version of the AllGrip 4WD technology.
The three-door variant of the Maruti Suzuki Gipsy was a successful product in the Indian market. We expect that Suzuki will introduce the new Jimny in the country as the utility vehicles segment is extremely popular in India.
