Next Generation Mahindra Thar Confirmed — Here’s More Details
Mahindra has confirmed the next generation Thar, that could feature a petrol engine and a host of features to make the vehicle feel upmarket.
Here's good news for off-road enthusiasts as Mahindra has confirmed the next generation Thar. Pawan Goenka, the Managing Director of Mahindra, has confirmed that the company is working on the next generation Thar.

Launched back in 2010, the Mahindra Thar became the preferred choice for off-road enthusiasts owing to the vehicle's capabilities. Later, in 2015, the Thar was given a mild mid-life facelift, including a fresh interior and a mechanically locking rear differential.

The next generation vehicle, however, will carry forward the same and could be designed internationally, with the help of Pininfarina and Ssangyong. Goenka said, "For every vehicle that Mahindra develops, we will seek three proposals for its design. One each from Ssangyong, Pininfarina and our team."

The next generation Mahindra Thar could retain the same 2498 cc, turbocharged CRDe diesel engine that produces 105bhp and 247Nm of peak torque and the 5-speed manual gearbox for the Indian market.

For a few international markets, however, Mahindra could develop a 1.5-litre petrol engine that has not been confirmed yet.

Other features that the new generation Thar will be equipped with wireless mobile charging, memory seats, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The Thar could also feature intelligent and assisted driving.
