Maruti Suzuki To Launch Premium SUV In India — Will It Rival The Mahindra XUV500 & Tata Hexa?
Maruti Suzuki will launch a premium SUV in India by 2019.
Maruti Suzuki launched the Vitara Brezza in the market when the company's foothold in the Utility Vehicle (UV) was negligible. However, that has changed now with the Maruti Brezza taking the top-slot in the top-selling SUVs in India.
Now, the Indo-Japanese carmaker wants a bigger pie in the SUV segment in India. In a recent interview with ET, the company revealed that it would launch a premium SUV by the end of 2019.
Maruti Suzuki Chairman R C Bhargava told ET, "The only place where we don't have a product is a bigger SUV, and that is coming. I am not sure of the exact date, but probably by the end of 2019,"
Along with the premium SUV, Maruti plans to bring in a new crossover utility vehicle based on the Ertiga platform internally codenamed YHB derivative. Ahead of the introduction of the crossover and the premium SUV, Maruti will launch a three-row Wagon R MPV.

The premium SUV from Maruti Suzuki is expected to be positioned in the price range of Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. The company wasn't successful in this price bracket with the Grand Vitara and the S-Cross receiving a lukewarm response from the Indian market.
The Maruti Brezza has proven to be a successful model for the company and will replicate the business strategy for the premium SUV as well. The new SUV from Maruti will rival the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Hexa.

Maruti Suzuki has tasted success with premium models such as the Baleno and the Ciaz. The company will try to position the new premium SUV with similar marketing strategies so that Indian buyers can accept the new SUV.
