Volkswagen Outsells Toyota During 2016 Despite Diesel Gate Issue
German carmaker Volkswagen has pulled off a magic to sell vehicles during the first half of 2016 despite the Diesel Gate scandal. The German carmaker has outsold Toyota in H1 of 2016 to become the best selling brand globally.
In the first half of 2016, Volkswagen sold 5.1 million vehicles globally and also posted 1.5 percent growth. Toyota on the other hand, managed to sell 4.9 million vehicles globally and also posted a decline of 0.6 percent sales compared to last year.
Volkswagen's Diesel Gate scandal would have affected the carmaker, but Volkswagen managed to sell numbers by offering discounts. Also, the demand for VW badged car have declined, but other brands under Volkswagen such as Audi, Porsche, and Skoda registered strong demand.
The carmaker is facing lawsuits in various countries around the world, but is still determined to end the year by selling more units compared to last year's 9.9 million units. Although sales numbers may look good, financial situation is expected to be bad for Volkswagen.
Coming to Toyota's performance, the Japanese carmaker suffered loss of production, which has directly reflected on the company's sales.
