By Rajkamal

The Diesel Gate Scandal did scar Volkswagen for life. The German based carmaker put many future plans on hold to rectify its image and trust after the infamous scandal.

Now, Volkswagen is determined to take a step towards the future, by not just getting technology that would help them build self driving cars, but making self driving cars that would not need a human's intervention at all.

Volkswagen has committed to do so with the help of Audi, Volkswagen's luxury car brand. Johann Jungwirth, Volkswagen's digital Chief said that the company will expand its presence in the Silicon Valley (California).

The German carmaker would set up centres for future design and autonomous driving alongside its electronics research lab, which will help speed up the development of technology for self driving cars.

Volkswagen is looking at rolling out fully autonomous cars by 2021 for commercial ride sharing. Volkswagen took a $300 million stake in Gett, a ride hailing company which competes with Uber in May.
