Spied: Volkswagen Ameo Diesel Spotted Testing
When Volkswagen launched the Ameo compact sedan back in June, the lack of diesel powered variants was an expected miss from the German carmaker, which was reeling at that time from the aftermath of the Diesel Gate scandal.
However, we can now report that a diesel powered variant is getting ready for launch and test mules of the diesel Ameo have been spotted getting some miles under their belt.
The diesel powered Ameo will use a tweaked version of the 1.5-litre diesel engine currently in use in other cars from the VW group including the Polo hatchback, Vento and the Skoda Rapid.
Volkswagen has increased the engine's power output from the current 103bhp to 108bhp. The 89bhp variant of the engine which is found in the Polo is also expected to make it onto the sedan though the power output is expected to go up on this lower powered variant as well.
VW is expected to offer the diesel Ameo with a 5-speed manual gearbox along with the 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox as well.
