Battle Of The Young; Comparing Datsun redi-GO vs Tata Nano GenX
The entry level hatchbacks in India was once dominated by Maruti, now there are many car manufacturers who want a pie in the mass market vehicles simply due to the volume of sales.
Tata has the Nano GenX and recently Datsun launched the redi-GO. So which is the better entry level hatchback? Let us compare to see which scores better.
Design
The redi-GO is bold, muscular and its angular lines are fresh and proportionate on a small car, which is also urban in nature. The redi-GO is built as a tall boy design and has a class leading ground clearance of 185mm.

On the inside of the redi-GO, the plastics are thick and dull and lacks the storage space which is essential in India. Datsun is offering styling accessories which can up the style quotient.
As for the Tata Nano GenX, the car is curvier and is also comes from the tall boy design, the car will surprise you with the roominess even though it might look smaller from outside. Also, the next generation Nano GenX comes with the boot lid, which was missing in the earlier Nano and it can hold 100 litres of luggage.
Not many would prefer the design of the Nano GenX, however, it is a personal choice and will differ person to person. The Nano GenX is shorter in length, however, its width and height are bigger compared to the redi-GO.

Features
Datsun has not given much in terms of features in the base variant of the redi-GO, the top variant does come with power steering, front power windows and audio system with USB, AUX and radio, however, no Bluetooth connectivity.
The Tata Nano GenX top variant comes with an automatic gearbox, audio system with USB, AUX, radio and Bluetooth connectivity.
Since these are the entry-level hatchbacks, you cannot expect a feature-filled model, mainly to keep the price down, which is the main USP of the small cars.

Engine Specifications & Gearbox
The redi-GO is powered by the more powerful 799cc petrol engine, which develops 53bhp and 72Nm of torque, this is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Verdict
Datsun redi-GO does score brownie points as it is much better in design and has the proportionate shape for an entry-level hatchback and most of all, it comes with driver airbag as well.
The Tata Nano GenX scores big when it comes to pricing for which you get the automatic gearbox as well. The entry-level cars are user-friendly when it comes to city traffic and easy to zip around, the Nano GenX makes it even easier with the automatic transmission.
