Volkswagen Facing Tax Evasion Probe Related To Emissions Scandal

German prosecutors have launched a second formal probe regarding Volkswagen, in connection with suspected tax evasion related to the emissions scandal.

The investigation focuses on five Volkswagen Group employees and concerns several million euros of evaded tax payments with regards to owners of Volkswagen vehicles for which carbon dioxide emissions were understated paid too little automotive tax.

The main focus of the investigation is tax evasion, but it could also involve fraud.

The emissions scandal regarding the faked emission levels, first came to light in September and has seen billions been wiped off the company's shares.
