Volkswagen Ameo Compact Sedan To Debut At 2016 Auto Expo
Volkswagen had a silent 2015 in terms of new car launches in India. The manufacturer also faced tough times in the cheat device scandal that tainted its image. Now, the Volkswagen Group is looking into the future and plans on strengthening its position and reputation in most markets.
At the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi, Volkswagen Group will be showcasing several new and interesting products. The vehicle set to grab maximum attention at the motor show is VW's new compact sedan. Volkswagen is most likely to name its all-new compact sedan as the 'Ameo'.
The Polo hatchbacks platform will be utilised by Volkswagen for its Ameo compact sedan. Volkswagen Ameo will be a sub-4 metre vehicle and will face tough competition from previously launched products. The Ameo will compete with Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, and Tata Zest.
Under the hood of Ameo will be two new engine options. An all-new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, diesel engine will be offered by Volkswagen. The engines will most likely be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission with an optional 7-speed DSG on offer.
In terms of safety, we can expect the base model of VW Ameo to sport several safety features. Dual front airbags and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) could be standardised.
Pricing as always will be critical in the success of the new compact sedan. Volkswagen's Ameo is most likely to be priced within Rs. 5.5 lakh to Rs. 8.5 lakh ex-showroom. The Ameo will be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and could be launched soon after its Indian debut.
