In the midst of all the doom and gloom abou the dieslgate scandal, Volswagen finally has a reason to smile. The German car giant's 'home' factory at Wolfsburg, Germany saw car number 43 million roll off its production line a few days back.
The plant in Wolfsburg is where Volkswagen started producing cars again in 1946 after the Second World War had destroyed Germany's economy. It took the company 10 years to build one million cars. By 1974 that number had hit 11.9 units. It then speeded up even more after the Volkswagen Golf was introduced that year.
A total of more than 20 different car models have been produced at the Wolfsburg plant and car number 43 million was the Touran MPV.
