Ford EcoSport Is One Millionth Vehicle To Roll Out Of Chennai Facility

Ford EcoSport is the one millionth vehicle to roll off the assembly lines from Ford's Chennai facility. The carmaker also achieved another milestone by producing one million engines in India. Ford India manufactures products and exports it to several emerging markets across the globe.

The production of passenger vehicles commenced at Ford's Chennai facility back in 1999. Since then, Ford has been manufacturing the Endeavour, Fiesta, and the EcoSport models in India. Ford has spent over USD one million to set up this facility in Chennai.

The Chennai facility is spread across 350 acres and has separate engine and vehicle assembly lines. Ford began engine assembly in India during 2008 and manufactures petrol and diesel engines. This integrated facility has the capacity to assemble 3,40,000 engines and 2,00,000 vehicles per year.

Ford is proud to announce that the hazardous waste from its facilities is recycled or used in cement industries. Water and energy consumption at the Chennai facility is reduced by 30 and 16 percent respectively. Ford also treat and reuse 100 percent of the water used within the facility, making it a zero liquid discharge factory.

Present at this momentous occasion of one million vehicles and engine rollout was Balasundaram Radhakrishnan, the Executive Director of Manufacturing at Ford's Chennai facility. Currently, Ford export products to over 40 countries from their Chennai manufacturing unit.

At this very moment, Ford's Chennai facility has over 6,000 employees. The production of one million engines and vehicles proves the dedication and passion of Ford India.
