Volvo V40 D4 With New Powertrain

By Ajinkya

Volvo is a car manufacturer based in Sweden, they will be offering their new powertrains called Drive-E. These engines match superior driving experience along with low CO2 emissions.

The Drive-E engine will be available for their V40 and V40 Cross Country. The manual transmission V40 D4, producing 190 HP will generate a low 85 g/km CO2 emission. None of their competitors come close to these figures.

Volvo V40 will be offered in two engine choices of four cylinder Drive-E specification. A Petrol 245 HP, turbo T5 and a Turbo Diesel D4 producing 190 HP. This all, along with a 8 speed automatic transmission for a refined drive.

Michael Fleiss, Vice President of Powertrain at Volvo Car Group, states,"The Volvo V40 D4 offers a massive 80 hp more driving pleasure than other cars in the segment with CO2 emissions at that level. This is yet more proof that the Drive-E powertrains take efficient driving pleasure to a new dimension."

He further adds,"Their outstanding take-off and responsiveness, combined with a smooth engine sound, will make the nimble V40 cars even more fun to drive, without compromising on modern customers' demand for superb fuel economy and minimised CO2-emissions."

The new Drive-E engine will be mated to Volvo Cars' new eight-speed automatic gearbox or an enhanced six-speed manual. Which will be tuned specially for superior fuel economy. The automatic version will feature paddle shifters for manual gear shifting.

The D4 turbo diesel will generate 190 HP of power and 400 Nm of peak torque. The engine will sport i-ART technology with pressure feedback from each fuel injector. Traditionally a single pressure sensor is used in a common rail engine, which can be a cause for drop in fuel efficiency.

Each injector will have an intelligent chip atop, that will monitor injection pressure. This information helps it to self adapt and the i-ART system measures the appropriate amount of fuel to be injected during every combustion cycle.

These engines from the Swiss manufacturer are state of the art and may come to India if there is demand for it, or our Government brings in stricter emission laws. This vehicle will be ready to tackle the issue.
