Tata T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship Announced
Tata Motors, India's leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles, has officially confirmed announced the first edition of Tata T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship. Scheduled to kick start on March 23 at the Buddh International Circuit, this will be India's first tryst with truck racing.
For the first edition of the truck racing championship Tata has primed a dozen of its road going Prima 4038.S prime movers. These regular heavy weight trucks come with 22 modifications to make them race ready and to comply with FIA and FMSCI safety regulations.

Some of the modifications done to the trucks are to the brake cooling system, fuel tank, propeller shaft guards, steering wheel, exhaust etc,. Some of the safety features include racing seats, five point safety harness, fire extinguishers among others.
Though the trucks share several similarities with road going Tata Motors Prima series of trucks and look almost identical from outside these racing trucks will be powered by modified engines generating 370 PS power capable of taking them to a top speed of 110 kmph.
While the inaugural event will be held at the BIC, following races will take place in Chennai and Coimbatore. The series will be supervised by FIA and the FMSCI, though the race itself will be held by MMSCI and will follow the standards set by British Truck Racing Association (BTRA).
Each race will consist of a qualifying round and a final round. Unlike other motor sporting events these trucks will begin racing with a rolling start. The inaugural Tata T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship will have six teams, with two drivers each, taking part in the races. At least during the first year there will be no Indian drivers on the grid as they still need to gain the required experience.
Sponsoring the Tata T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship are Wabco, Castrol, Cummins, Accenture and JK Tyre.
The Tata Motors racing trucks will be displayed for the first time in public at the Component Manufacturers venue at Pragati Maidan during the Auto Expo 2014.
