Tata Motors To Invest 200 Million Pounds In JLR Halewood Plant

Jaguar Land Rover had announced it will be manufacturing its new SUV the Discovery Sport in its Halewood facility in the United Kingdom. Tata Motors is the owner of the British icon and will be investing approximately 200 Million Pounds in the Halewood facility.

Land Rover currently manufactures the Range Rover Evoque from the Halewood facility. The Evoque is the British icon's fastest selling product for a while now. So far, the Halewood facility has received a total investment of 500 Million Pounds over a period of four years.

The new facility will require roughly 250 new recruits. The Discovery Sport, which is going to be manufactured at Halewood will join the Discovery family. The vehicle was showcased as a concept at New York Auto Show and will be available by 2015, claim Jaguar Land Rover.

Richard Else, Jaguar Land Rover Halewood Operations Director, told our source, "We have seen our workforce treble and production quadruple in just four years. Today we are operating three shifts, 24 hours a day to meet global demand and I am confident that the team will rise to the challenge and deliver a flawless launch of this exciting new model."

The Range Rover Evoque is Jaguar Land Rover's top selling vehicle in 2011 and was manufactured at the Halewood facility. They manufactured over 2,00,000 units in two years. This is the highest volume produced by a JLR facility for any vehicle till date. Out of the total Range Rover Evoques manufactured, 80% are exported to other countries.

Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, explained, "The Land Rover Discovery Sport is the next in a line of exciting new products to come from Jaguar Land Rover. I am delighted that Halewood and Liverpool has been selected for this new investment."
