Tata Bolt To Be The Most Affordable Diesel Automatic Car
Tata Motors had showcased two new offerings at the 2014 Auto Expo which was held in New Delhi. It revealed its Bolt hatchback and Zest Sedan, supposedly game changers for the Indian manufacturer.
The Bolt will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki's Celerio. The secret to Celerio's success has been its affordable AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) offering. Tata Motors will be developing an AMT for its hatchback, although they will have a diesel powertrain.

Currently in India, the affordable diesel automatic vehicle comes from the stables of Hyundai, the Verna sedan. The South Korean car is not the most affordable and is out of reach for most buyers.

The market trend in India is changing, more and more people are opting for an AMT vehicle. The move is justified as the traffic scenario is a major factor in this decision. Tata Motors wants to capitalise on this and plan to offer the Bolt with an AMT gearbox, at an affordable price tag.

The Bolt hatchback will sport the same engine present in the Vista and Manza. The diesel engine comes from Fiat, it is a 1.3-litre quadrajet and it will be capable of producing 75 PS, while a more powerful 90 PS option too will be available.
The Automatic Electronic Actuator will be manufactured with the help of Italian manufacturers Magneti Marelli. It will have the usual D-mode and also a S-mode for a more sportier ride. Tata Motors will also be offering the AMT unit in its most affordable car, the Nano.
