Maruti Suzuki Developing 800cc Diesel Celerio Engine
The Celerio AMT has been a hugely successful product for the Maruti Suzuki. There have been demands and requests by customers for the hatchback to be offered with a diesel engine. Big news now is that Maruti Suzuki has been working on a small and light 800cc diesel mill.
Maruti Suzuki plan to launch the 800cc diesel powered Celerio in India by the end of this fiscal year. The diesel engine will be shared with the manufacturer's LCVs (Light Commercial Vehicle) and the Celerio. This will be the smallest diesel engine in India.

The 800cc diesel engine will be developed by Maruti Suzuki at its Gurgaon facility, the main manufacturing plant in the country. Suzuki engineers claim their diesel powered Celerio will deliver a fuel efficiency of 30 kpl.

Maruti Suzuki has launched its Celerio recently with a factory fitted CNG kit, making the hatchback environment friendly. The diesel prices are set for a hike and will it be the right time to introduce a diesel Celerio, time will tell us.

It is most likely that the diesel-powered Celerio will not get an AMT version. It would definitely be much appreciated by customers if the Japanese manufacturer could offer the highly fuel efficient vehicle with the AMT option. The pricing of Celerio with a diesel engine has not been confirmed so far and will be revealed at a time closer to launch.
The diesel powered Celerio will not receive significant design updates or interior changes. The only change will be the diesel mill under the hood. We will have to wait and see if the diesel Celerio will recreate the magic of the AMT version.
