Lexus Coming To India Officially
In India the luxury car segment is growing at a phenomenal pace. The space is currently dominated by Germans, who have proved their mettle in India. Now Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi will face competition from a new face in India.
The Japanese manufacturers have been paying keen attention to the luxury segment and Toyota believes the Indian market is ready for its Lexus brand of vehicles. The Lexus will face tough competition from the class leaders.
Naomi Ishii, Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Indian subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, told source, "We see a lot of opportunity in India now. Given that the three German brands are doing well, I feel we need Lexus here."

The luxury segment in India consists of 30,000 to 40,000 vehicles every year. The German luxury car manufacturer has begun locally assembling most of its vehicle making their motor vehicles more affordable than before. If the Japanese manufacturer wants to compete in the luxury car segment they too will have to set up local assemblies in India.
Lexus is still not sure about which car to introduce if they bring the Lexus brand to India. They would also prefer setting up their local assembly as it would take away the 100% duty which an imported luxury vehicle attracts.
Toyota recently launched in India the Etios Cross and the Corolla Altis sedan. They currently sell the Etios, Etios Liva, Fortuner and Innova. The Japanese manufacturer believes this is the right time to introduce their premium brand of Lexus vehicles.
