Historic Formula One Series Planned By Bernie Ecclestone
Formula One cars are meant to be loud, so say a huge majority of fans. But the latest generation of turbo-V6 engines in the 2014 season have been hugely criticised for being too silent, and not keeping in the spirit of screaming, loud Formula One cars of the past.
All is not lost, by the looks of things, since a new racing series is being thought up by Bernie Ecclestone that features old school Formula One race cars and drivers. Rest assured, this series will be deafening...
The new series is to be called Historic Formula One, and is garnering interest from some former biggies in racing, including three-time world champion Nelson Piquet, former world champion Nigel Mansell, race-winner Gerhard Berger and former F1 driver, Le Mans winner and race commentator Martin Brundle.
The aforementioned former drivers too, sound enthusiastic about the planned series. Gerhard Berger is reported to have stated, "I am sure that it will be successful and that all former drivers would like to participate", while Martin Brundle said he would like to take part "especially if it was supporting the F1 calendar."
"A series with former drivers is a good idea," says Ecclestone. "We have talked about it and it is something we ought to do. Many of these old drivers are still absolutely good enough. You would put them in the cars they used to drive."

This is not the first time a historic racing series has been planned. In 2005, a series called the GP Masters was launched, with drivers like Nigel Mansell and Riccardo Patrese racing 3.5-litre, single-seater racing cars. However, a lack of funding caused the series to wrap up after only three races.
