General Motors Working On A New Platform For India
General Motors currently offer an array of vehicles in India. They recently announced that it would for the first time export vehicles from India across international waters. The reason for this move was the under utilisation of its facility in India.
Now the American based manufacturer will use its manufacturing facility to build an all new platform for India as well as emerging markets. The new platform will be capable of producing three models based on it. The new project by General Motors has been dubbed as 'Amber'.
The new platform is expected to increase the sales in India, where General Motors is not doing significantly well. The new platform will give birth to a compact SUV, compact sedan and a hatchback. These new products will be sold exclusively in emerging markets such as Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Thailand, India and several others.

A person within the development told our source, "With regards to India, the priority is on the compact SUV, but the platform will also have a premium hatchback and an entry level sedan. The projects are likely to be launched in India and Brazil concurrently or within a matter of 6 months."
Project Amber will bear heavy international influence as it will be designed by Europeans and engineered by Brazilians. The project will be watched closely by the Global CEO of General Motors, Mary Barra. She believes the project has potential to sell in excess of one million vehicles.
The three cars based on the Amber project will be prepared and ready for sale only by 2018. Till then we will have to make do with the current lineup of General Motors product. The current vehicles by the American manufacturer has not impressed the domestic market and it is showing in sales figures of the company. We hope they can get its new products to India as soon as possible.
