Formula 1 Drivers Can Choose Their Numbers
For some driver's a number can motivate them and for some it hardly matters. In MotoGP, riders are allowed to choose a number for themselves. In Formula One, however, race numbers were selected based on which manufacturer won the constructors championship. All that is set to change in the coming 2014 season.
Formula One will now permit driver's to select their race numbers, however, they will have to live with the number for the remainder of their F1 career.
All the driver's have selected their race numbers prior to the Australian GP. First of all reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel is honoured with the champions No.1 and he has personally chosen the No.5, just incase he isn't able to win the 2014 Championship.
Scuderia Ferrari main man Fernando Alonso has chosen the No. 14, this is the number he used during his karting days. While team mate Kimi Raikkonen has opted for the No.7, Jules Bianchi too wanted the number, however, since the Finn's better championship in last years outing, he had the upperhand.

Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and team mate Nico Rosberg have opted for the Nos. 44 and 6 respectively. While McLaren drivers Jenson Button and rookie Kevin Magnussen have chosen the No. 22 and 20 respectively.
Force India contenders Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg will be seen with the Nos. 11 and 27. Hulkenberg when asked why he opted for the No. 27, he replied that he found the number to be cool.
It will be great to see how the driver's will promote their numbers. Raikkonen has already designed his helmet around his race number.
