Rolls Royce India Edition Confirmed; In Need Of A Symbol
A patriotic Indian, rich enough to own a Phantom could one day own a India special Rolls Royce model. But that day has not yet come, not because Rolls Royce is not interested in making one, instead because the design team has not yet finalized on a theme for the said vehicle.
A special edition car honouring a country always a carries a theme. Lamborghini, for instance, keeps it simple by always painting such cars in the colours of the country's flag. Italian editions have a bodywork that take their cue from the Italian tricolour, while the Gallardo India Serie Speciale came wearing the Indian tri-coloured stripes across its body.
Rolls Royce, unlike Lamborghini, prefers to keep its special edition models extravagant. Be it the recently unveiled Celestial Phantom or last year's "Year of The Dragon Phantom", a special edition Rolls Royce made for China. The more sophisticated the design the harder it is to come up with a theme.
With China we could say the choice of Dragon as a symbol was somewhat obvious. Not so with India though. India's incredible diversity makes narrowing down to a single symbol that represents the country's ‘spirit and cultural diversity' a difficult task. And this is what is keeping Rolls Royce from getting on with the project.
"We are looking at a symbol, which represents the spirit and cultural diversity of India. It is a colourful country and we need to find the perfect blend. Each region has its own culture and tradition. We need to find a common thread," said Herfried Hasenoehrl, General Manager of Emerging Markets, Asia.
The special edition Rolls Royce Phantom is expected to be unveiled next year.
