Mercedes Benz GL Class SUV Production Starts In Chakan
India has become the only second place in the world where the Mercedes Benz GL Class SUV is manufactured, from scratch. The GL Class was launched in India in May. The first 100 units of the premium SUV were brought into India to meet the initial orders.
The price of 78.88 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Bangalore) was still a bargain and Mercedes threw in a few added features with the initial orders. Production of GL 350 CDI 4MATIC BlueEfficiency, the only variant on offer here, has now started at Merc's Chakan plant in Pune.

Local production has meant that it is now being offered for a much lower starting price of INR 72.58 lakhs. The GL 350 CDI 4MATIC BlueEfficiency has a 3.0 liter (2987 cc) V6 diesel engine that generates 258 HP at 3600 rpm and 510 Nm of torque at 1600 rpm.
Mated to a 7-speed G-Tronic automatic transmission, the GL 350 CDI can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds despite its bulk. The only other place in the world where the GL Class is manufactured is at the Mercedes-Benz facility in Tuscaloosa, USA.
