Honda Accord Hybrid Coming To India?
If you have been keeping yourself regularly updated about the automotive world then you'll know that Honda has stopped sales of its Accord premium sedan in India. The decision was taken due to lack of demand.

While most believe the Accord is gone for good from the Indian automotive scene, a few believe it would make a comeback next year, with the launch of a facelift. It is now believed that Honda could indeed bring back the Accord to India next year, although in a greener form.
Honda Accord Hybrid, launched in India would be the sole variant on offer, in a single trim. It would seem Honda is taking the Toyota Camry Hybrid route to try its fortune once again and this time over, it could work. That's because, while a regular Honda in the INR 25-30 lakhs range may seem like a lot to pay for a non-German luxury car, a hybrid car in the same price range does not seem all that expensive all of a sudden.
Also, if Honda ensures the Accord Hybrid is sufficiently feature packed - in terms of both luxury and convenience - the Japanese premium sedan would turn out to be an attractive package. Honda Accord Hybrid will also be assembled locally, like the Toyota Camry Hybrid, which should help the automaker offer the vehicle at a reasonable price.
Honda's previous hybrid adventure in India, with the Civic turned out to be a disaster because it was imported, resulting in an unwelcome price tag. However, the Government of India is said to begin hybrid and electric vehicle subsidy under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan from April 2014 onwards, which will further help Honda in selling the Accord Hybrid.
Honda Accord Hybrid comes powered by a 2 litre petrol engine rated at 141 PS power and 165 Nm of peak torque. The engine is combined with a 166 PS AC synchronous electric motor that takes the power figure up to a max 196 PS and torque to 306 Nm. Power is delivered via an e-CVT automatic unit, like the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
The motor runs on a lithium-ion battery and like all hybrids, Honda Accord Hybrid can run on petrol and electric power or both combined. In the U.S, the Accord Hybrid delivers a mileage of 21.25 kmpl in the city, which is slightly more than what it delivers on the highway.
