Datsun's Third Indian Model Revealed; Will Rival Alto
Datsun, the entry level vehicle sub-brand of Nissan, will launch its first model, the GO hatchback early in 2014, with sales starting from March. This will be followed by the GO+, an MPV based on the hatchback.
Once the hatchback and MPV segments are covered one might think Datsun would next launch a compact sedan model. In fact, the automaker has a compact sedan model launch scheduled in Russia. However, Datsun has decided to delay entry into the compact sedan segment and instead launch a second hatchback.

Nissan India vice president, Ajay Raghuvanshi has revealed to FT that the third Datsun model will be an entry level hatchback, placed below Go. While the Go hatchback will be placed in the INR 3-4 lakh price range, the sub-Go hatchback, known by its internal code-name ‘l2', will fall in the 2-3 lakh price bracket.

While the Go is meant to rival the Alto K10, the l2 will go head to head with the Alto 800. Thus, Datsun will have the entire entry level city hatchback segment covered. The third Datsun is still some time away from launch through, with a timeframe of 2015-26.
Datsun intends to sell anywhere from 8000-9000 l2 units each month. That's about the same number of Eon small cars Hyundai manages to sell. But it will take some time and something more for Datsun to catch up with Maruti's 20,000 units figure.
Datsun cars will be sold through Nissan dealerships of which 117 exist now, but that number will be taken to 145 by March. Exclusive Datsun dealerships are also likely to be setup in rural areas where Nissan does not have a presence.
To make their cars more easier to purchase and own a new finance arm, called NBFC, will soon be setup. NBFC will offer attractive finance schemes for purchase of Datsun, Nissan and Renault vehicles.
