BMW 1 Series India Launch On September 3
[Update: BMW 1 Series launched] BMW's answer to the Mercedes A Class, B Class and Audi Q3, is nearing launch date in India. The 5 door variant of the BMW 1 Series will make its debut here on September 3 and will be offered with a petrol and diesel engine variant.
BMW 1 Series, though a hatchback, is designed more like a small crossover, with an elongated nose. The 1 Series is thus comparatively more spacious than the A Class.

BMW's entry level offering will come sporting the 2.0 liter 118d turbo diesel unit, capable of delivering 143 HP and 320 Nm of torque. The 4 cylinder diesel unit, in its Euro spec, delivers a fuel economy of 24.39 kmpl, while the ARAI specified figure is 20.58 kmpl. The drop in mileage is due to the engine modification that is done to suit lower quality fuel in India.
The 116i 1.6 liter petrol engine on offer is capable of 136 HP and 220 Nm of torque and once again, in its European state is good for 18.51 kmpl, but the Indian spec engine will deliver an ARAI certified 16.28km/l. Both engines will be mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Indian spec 1 Series will have softer suspension settings though.

BMW 1 Series five door hatchback is expected to fall into the price range of INR 22-25 lakhs. But BMW could surprise us since the car will be produced locally in its Chennai plant. Stay tuned for more updates as we near launch date.
