BMW 1 Series Launched; Starting Price Rs. 20.9 Lakhs
After months of promotional events and social media campaigns BMW India has finally launched the 1 Series. The luxury BMW hatchback was unveiled by non other than BMW India brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar in a launch event held in Mumbai.
BMW 1 Series hatch is now the least expensive product on offer by the German brand, a place previously held by X1 compact SUV. Starting price for compact luxury car stands at INR. 20.9 lakhs for the base petrol trim and extends to INR 30 lakhs for top spec trim.

In terms of variants BMW 1 Series will be available in four trims:
116i base trim (petrol): INR 20.9 lakhs
118d (diesel): INR 22.9 lakhs
118d Sport line (diesel): INR 25.9 lakhs
118d Sport Plus (diesel): INR 29.9 lakhs
Engines and transmission
BMW is offering buyers two engines to choose from. There is the base petrol version, which runs on a 1.6 liter turbo unit that delivers 136 HP and 220 Nm. This engine delivers a mileage of 16.28km/l (ARAI certified).

The diesel engine is a 143 HP, 320 Nm torque 2.0 liter unit. This engine offers a certified average fuel economy of 20.58 km/l.
Both engines will be mated to a ZT eight speed automatic transmission.
BMW 1 Series offers drivers with four driving modes which alters how the car handles and performs. Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Eco Pro. For instance, Comfort mode is for everyday driving, while Eco Pro mode puts emphasis on fuel economy. The two Sport driving modes make the suspensions stiffer, with the emphasis being driving and cornering fast. These are not the most suitable for driving on city roads.
Variants
116i petrol: Standard offerings on the base trim are fog lamps, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, 16 inch alloy wheels, ABS, six airbags, start/stop functionality and Eco mode, with BMW's Brake Energy Regeneration system. Run flat tyres are standard with all trims.

180d (diesel): Base diesel trim. Has the same feature set as the base petrol.

118d Sport Line: Go one level up and the feature list is populated with extras such as dual-zone climate control, electric seat adjuster with memory function, BMW iDrive infotainment system controller with hands free control facility and sliding front armrest.

118d Sport Plus: This is the top spec trim and buyers get functionalities like keyless ignition, rear AC vents, 17 inch alloy wheels and lastly, a sunroof.
BMW ConnectedDrive optional package: BMW iDrive infotainment system with 16.5 inch high-res display, connectivity through Bluetooth, USB. HiFi loundspeaker system and Radio BMW professional.
