Audi’s Q3 Sport Coming To India On August 19
If you think Audi does not have a new vehicle to take on the Mercedes A Class, B Class, and the upcoming BMW 1 Series, then you would be wrong. Enter, Audi Q3 Sport. Technically, just a variant of the Q3 crossover, the Audi Q3 Sport is a made for India model. The three way ‘budget' luxury car battle between the Germans, in India, is about to begin.
Audi Q3, at present, is the company's best selling compact SUV/crossover product in India. But with a price tag that almost reaches INR 35 lakhs by the time it hits the road, it is not cheap. Hence, not capable of taking on the budget luxury car onslaught from Mercedes Benz and BMW, which have/will have cars in the price range of INR 22 lakhs-25 lakhs.
The Q3 Sport will solve this problem for Audi. How so you ask? To begin with, it will be manufactured from scratch at its Aurangabad assembly facility. This will help by removing several layers of tax.
Next, the Q3 Sport will not provide several standard features generally provided by the standard Q3. You will not get powered front passenger seat, seat memory, daytime running lights, xenon headlamps, satellite navigation, sunroof and reverse camera, cutting the cost further down.
However, do not be mislead by the ‘Sport' moniker. The Q3 Sport will be less powerful than the regular Q3. The engine doing duty will be the same 2.0 liter TDI turbo diesel, but instead of 170HP/350Nm torque it will only deliver 140 HP/320 Nm torque.
Furthermore, it will not even feature Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system or the 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Instead, it will get a less expensive 6 speed manual transmission, that will turn the front wheels. The only plus side is that it will weight 1,445 kg, which is 140 kg less than standard, but you can hardly expect that to make a lot of difference.
After all the cost cutting measures the price of the Audi Q3 Sport should come down to about INR 25 lakhs. Maybe even a lakh less. Finally, it is all going to come down to the best value for money. More features for less and you'll have a winner.
