Audi Q1 Crossover Confirmed For 2016, Concept Teaser Released
Audi has officially confirmed the Q1, a crossover model that the German luxury automaker will manufacturer starting from 2016 in its Ingolstadt facility. The announcement is accompanied with a teaser image of a concept car.
"The Q1 is part of our broad-based SUV strategy. It is designed on the basis of the modular transverse engine concept and will round off our Q series at the bottom end," said Rupert Stadler, chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG.

The Q1 crossover, which will become the 6th model in Audi's ‘Q' family of SUVs, will be built on VW's MQB modular platform, a platform which it will share with the Audi A1. The Q3, RS Q3, Q5, SQ5 and Q7 are the existing model in the ‘Q' product lineup.
The upcoming B-segment crossover will measure 3,800mm long and will feature rugged exterior design. However, being an entry level vehicle Audi will not equip it with its Quattro all wheel drive system.

Audi Q1 is expected to arrive powered by a 1.4 liter TFSI petrol, 1.4 liter TDI 3-cylinder diesel and a top of the line 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engines. All three engines will reportedly be coupled with the seven speed dual clutch transmission.
Audi Q1 will be a global model and should arrive in India soon after its global launch. A product priced below the high selling Q3 will allow Audi to tap into to a new segment of buyers, further strengthening its position in countries such as India.
