Aston Martin AMG Models Only A Few Years Away

By Ganesh

The deal between British automaker Aston Martin and Daimler was finalised in July. As per the deal the Mercedes-Benz's performance division AMG will be Aston's technical partner, a place that is still held by American automaker, Ford.

While rumors about the deal first began several months ago there was never any clarity as to when the fruits of the partnership would start bearing, even after the formal agreement was announced. Now, for the first time, a definite timeframe has been provided, by non other than Daimler chief and Mercedes CEO, Dr. Dieter Zetsche.

Speaking to AutoExpress at the Frankfurt Auto Show Zetsche informed, the world would see the first Aston Martin wearing the AMG logo in about three to four years time. While still not a crisp time frame it is still a quantifiable estimate.

"Aston's new investor was convinced that it would be helpful to associate with someone with experience in fast car technology," Zetsche said. "When you make decisions like this it usually takes three to four years to see the results."

AMG badged Aston Martin will belong to the next generation model lineup. These are expected to come with turbocharged V8 engines from AMG, in place of the Ford sourced V8s and V12s that are currently doing duty in all Astons. Furthermore, AMG will supply electrical components and transmissions as well.

We can say without doubt that platform sharing will happen between the two automakers across the Channel.
