Aston Martin & Daimler Begin Talks Of Partnership

aston daimler
The first piece of news about Aston Martin shifting from Ford sourced engines to AMG engines surfaced last year during change of ownership to Investindustrial, a company associated with Mercedes Benz. After several months of silence it has surfaced again.

Bloomberg is reporting that Aston Martin and Daimler are in early talks "on supply and technical-cooperation agreements" A Daimler spokesperson has reportedly told the publication that talks relating to supply have happened between Daimler and Aston Martin and its owners Investindustrial Advisers SpA and Investment Dar Co. However, no decisions have been taken yet.

Aston Martin, while a premium luxury vehicle manufacturer that builds great cars, with superb design and build quality, lags behind its supercar counterparts in terms of technology. Aston Martin's relatively low financial resources have meant development has been limited and slow.

The Gaydon, UK based automaker is the only manufacturer of its kind that is not associated with a cash rich goliath such as VW, Fiat, Toyota, GM etc. All existing Aston Martin vehicles are built on a single platform, which is again fast turning outdated and needs to be replaced urgently. The same goes for the engines, which could be called obsolete in comparison to the technological marvels being developed by other automakers of its level.

A partnership with Daimler would provide Aston Martin with access to a huge stockpile of technology, not to mention AMG engines. A partnership which Aston Martin needs to form desperately.
