Toyota On the Lines Of Duster; Planning Small SUV
Following the lines of Renault Duster and Ford Ecosport, Japanese carmaker Toyota is mulling a compact SUV for the Indian market. The carmaker is reportedly planning a five seater SUV to be placed in the Rs 8-12 lakh range.
However, Toyota is still in the initial stages of discussion on the new SUV - model, variants, engine and price. Expect the compact model to hit the Indian market by 2014.
Another SUV from Toyota, the premium Fortuner is priced above the Rs 20 lakh range. It is the Innova MPV that accounts for the major share of sales in country presently.
Speculations are that the carmaker may introduce the Rush compact SUV which it sells in other Asian markets. Considering market conditions, Toyota will be fitting the Rush with a fuel efficient diesel engine.
The Renault Duster which was launched recently has been receiving immense response from car buyers with the SUV crossing 4,000 bookings in a few days. One of the major reasons for the success of the Duster is its highly affordable price tag. (Read: Renault Duster Bookings Cross 4,000 In Few Days)
Similarly, if Toyota launches an affordable SUV with low running costs, it is sure to be a hit considering the brand value of the carmaker. Meanwhile, the EcoSport SUV from Ford is expected to be launched sometime soon in the market.
