Skoda Fabia Scout – Price, Specs, Features
The launch of the Fabia Scout in India could be seen as part of Skoda's plan to expand its product line-up in the country. The Fabia Scout is a model that has been in the European market for several years.
It will be the second car in line from the Czech manufacturer after the entry-level Skoda Fabia hatchback which comes at a starting price of Rs 4.32 lakhs. The petrol variant of the Fabia Scout comes at a starting price of Rs 6.79 lakhs while the diesel variant will cost you a higher Rs 8.10.
What makes the Fabia Scout different from the regular Fabia is its rugged styling which gets a protective cladding on the sides, new front bumper and a rear diffuser. The interior also gets a premium look with leather seats, stylized door sill and steel control pedals. However, other than the sporty styling, the Fabia Scout hatchback is in par to the regular Fabia with no increase in ground clearance or no off-road ability.
The Fabia Scout's body kit consists of a host of extra features making it a class leading car in the segment. The standard equipments include headlamps with projectors, leather seats, integrated stereo, power windows, tintedglasses, sporty stainless steel pedal and remote locking together with air bags for driver and passenger in the front.
Coming to the technical specification, the Fabia Scout will be available with both petrol and diesel engine. While the petrol engine is a 1.2L MPI 3-cylinder unit which churns out a decent power of 75 bhp and 110 Nm of pure torque, the 1.2L TDI CR diesel turbo-charged 3-cylinder motor produces 75 bhp and 180 Nm of max power and peak torque. Both engines of the Fabia Scout hatchback are mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
To conclude, The Fabia Scout is a premium hatchback which sits on the top-end position of the Fabia hatchback family. However, it has to be seen how the Scout variant is going to be received in the market considering the price of the car, especially in a price conscious car market like India, which is well in match to a mid-level sedan.
