Maruti Suzuki is competing strongly with newer models in India. The latest launch was the Vitara Brezza SUV and now, the carmaker is gearing up to launch the Ignis crossover in India. The Ignis was first showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show and later during the 2016 Indian Auto expo.
Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the Ignis by the end of this year and the crossover will be manufactured at the company's factory in Sanand. The facility will also double up as the global production hub.
The compact crossover segment is gaining attention in India, especially after Mahindra came up with the KUV100. Looking at the potential, Maruti is looking at stealing the limelight away from Mahindra. At the moment, the KUV100 is the only vehicle in this segment.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Design
On the design front, the Ignis will be based on a new lightweight platform which will be 30 percent stiffer and 15 percent lighter. The Ignis ditches the flowing lines like the Baleno, S-Cross or even the KUV100, and Maruti has decided to go for a more boxy design design like the Brezza.
The Ignis could use projector lamps that was showcased on the model that was displayed at the Auto Expo. The headlamp setup along with the daytime running lights give the Ignis a unique character from the front. The front grille is also quite unique to Maruti as it does not share any resemblance to other models made by the carmaker.
The Ignis will have a tall stance and good ground clearance.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Engine Specification & Gearbox
The Maruti Ignis is expected in India with the 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel engines that does the duty on the rest of the Maruti Suzuki cars in India. The engine could be tuned differently to suit the crossover, but is more or less expected to be the same.
Maruti could bring the 1.0-litre booster jet engine and could also surprise Indian customers with an all-wheel drive option. It is not out of reach at the moment for Maruti as the S-Cross was already seen testing the all-wheel drive system. Also, the Ignis could be offered with an optional AMT gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Pricing
Pricing plays a crucial role and Maruti had it right most of the times. The Ignis could be priced between the Rs. 4.5 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh bracket. The main competitor will be the Mahindra KUV100, and the Mahindra crossover has established itself in the Indian market and is also doing well.
