McMurtry Automotive Secures Castle Combe Circuit For 2024 EV Hypercar Testing
In a significant move for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, Gloucestershire-based McMurtry Automotive has announced a new partnership with Castle Combe Circuit in Wiltshire. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment, as the EV hypercar company selects the circuit as its primary testing ground for the upcoming 2024 model. The partnership entails multiple private test days at the high-speed 1.85-mile race track, alongside bespoke branding opportunities throughout the venue for McMurtry Automotive.
Further strengthening local ties, McMurtry Automotive has recently expanded its team by recruiting two technicians from the Wiltshire College Motorsport Campus, located at Castle Combe Circuit. This move not only underscores the company's commitment to fostering local talent but also highlights the synergy between academic institutions and the automotive industry in advancing vehicle technology.
Since its inception in 2016, McMurtry Automotive has been at the forefront of vehicle innovation, particularly in enhancing downforce generation to produce hyper track cars with unmatched driving performance. The company gained international acclaim in 2022 when its Spéirling fan car, driven by Max Chilton, broke the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb record—a testament to its engineering prowess.
The longstanding relationship between McMurtry Automotive and Castle Combe Circuit has been instrumental in the development of the Spéirling, with the circuit serving as a crucial base for on-track development work. The new partnership cements this relationship further, focusing on the testing of McMurtry's latest model, the 'Spéirling PURE’ customer track car.
Thomas Yates, Managing Director of McMurtry Automotive, emphasized the strategic advantage of having Castle Combe Circuit located just 30 minutes from their headquarters. This proximity allows for rapid development cycles through immediate feedback from track testing. Max Symonds, Commercial Manager at Castle Combe Circuit, expressed enthusiasm for supporting McMurtry's innovative strides in electric motorsport and the broader progression of EVs on track.
Castle Combe Circuit has been a proponent of electric vehicles, offering one of the UK's key circuits that accommodate EVs during car track days and private hires by EV groups and organisations. In alignment with their partnership, both entities are collaborating to enhance EV charging infrastructure at the venue.
This partnership not only signifies a leap forward in electric motorsport but also showcases how collaboration between automotive companies and racing circuits can drive technological advancements and support sustainable practices within the industry.
