Hyundai Electric Vehicle Sales Climb 31% In April 2024 With Record Performances

In a recent announcement, Hyundai Motor America disclosed its sales figures for April 2024, revealing a slight 3% dip in total sales compared to April 2023, with 68,603 units sold. This decrease comes despite the company achieving its best retail month ever for several models, including the IONIQ 5, which saw a remarkable 59% increase. The sales performance in April also marked record numbers for the IONIQ 6, Tucson HEV, Santa Fe HEV, and Palisade.

Despite the overall decrease in sales, Hyundai's electrified vehicle segment, encompassing hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles (EVs), experienced a significant 26% growth. Specifically, battery electric vehicle sales surged by 31%. Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, highlighted the strong performance of electrified sales, particularly noting the IONIQ 5's impressive 59% increase.

Hyundai's achievements extend beyond vehicle sales. The company received accolades for the interiors and user experience (UX) of its 2024 models. Both the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kona were honored in the 2024 Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX awards by WardsAuto. Furthermore, Hyundai dominated the U.S. News & World Report's Best Hybrid and Electric Cars Awards for 2024, securing the most awards of any brand. The IONIQ 6 was recognized as the Best Value EV by Cars.com, and both the Santa Fe and Kona were named to Autotrader’s Best New Cars for 2024 list.

In addition to these accolades, Hyundai is set to participate in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with the IONIQ 5 N, aiming to captivate a new generation of owners. The company is also committed to community initiatives through its Hyundai Hope program. In partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Michigan and the Children’s Foundation, Hyundai supports child passenger safety initiatives.

Hyundai Motor America plays a significant role in the U.S. economy, contributing $20.1 billion annually and supporting approximately 190,000 jobs through its operations and network of independent dealers. With a technology-rich lineup of cars, SUVs, and electrified vehicles, Hyundai continues to support Hyundai Motor Company’s vision of Progress for Humanity.

The detailed sales figures for April highlight both successes and challenges within specific models. For instance, while the Elantra HEV saw a modest increase of 3%, other models like the Sonata experienced a slight decline in year-to-date sales compared to 2023. Despite these variances, Hyundai's focus on electrification and innovation remains evident in its growing electric vehicle segment and recognition in industry awards.

As Hyundai moves forward, its commitment to electrification and technological advancement is clear. With significant operations across the U.S., including manufacturing plants and R&D facilities, Hyundai is poised to continue its contribution to both the automotive industry and broader economic landscape.
