Honda Battle Of The Bands Announces First-Ever West Coast Showcase In 2025
The Honda Battle of the Bands (HBOB), a celebrated showcase of talent from Historically Black College and University (HBCU) marching bands, is set to make a historic return on February 1, 2025. For the first time, this vibrant display of HBCU culture and tradition will grace the West Coast, taking place at the prestigious SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Yvette Hunsicker, the Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility and Inclusion & Diversity at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., highlighted Honda's ongoing commitment to uplifting HBCU students by providing them with platforms like HBOB to showcase their talents.
Six exceptional HBCU marching bands will be selected to perform at the 2025 Invitational Showcase through a voting process that includes input from HBOB fans, HBCU band directors, students, and Honda representatives. The voting opens on July 15 at the official HBOB website, where fans can cast their votes for their favorite bands. Additionally, tickets for this much-anticipated event will be available for purchase starting May 15 on the same platform.

Christy Castillo Butcher, Senior Vice President of Booking and Programming for SoFi Stadium, expressed enthusiasm about hosting HBOB's inaugural West Coast event. Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts also shared his pride in the city's role as the host location, emphasizing the significance of bringing such a prestigious event to Inglewood. California State Senator Steven Bradford acknowledged Honda's efforts in supporting HBCUs, noting the critical role these institutions play in advancing higher education and opportunities within the Black community.
For over three decades, Honda has been a steadfast supporter of HBCUs, contributing scholarships, programs, and initiatives aimed at celebrating and realizing the dreams of HBCU students. Through initiatives like the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge and HBOB, Honda has positively impacted more than 300,000 students and has contributed over $14 million in grants to enhance educational programs and facilities at HBCUs. Honda's commitment extends further through its membership in the HBCU Partnership Challenge and collaborations with organizations such as the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and UNCF to provide scholarship funding.
SoFi Stadium stands as the largest stadium in the NFL and boasts the unique feature of being the first indoor-outdoor stadium. It has been chosen as a venue for several major events including eight FIFA World Cup '26 matches, Super Bowl LXI in 2027, and both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Games in 2028. This selection underscores the stadium's prominence and versatility as a premier event location.
Honda's dedication to diversity and support for HBCUs is further detailed in their diversity report available on their website. This commitment reflects Honda's broader mission to foster educational opportunities and celebrate diversity through its various programs and partnerships.
