Bentley Unveils Sustainable Driving Simulator For Future Luxury Cars
Bentley Motors has unveiled a significant advancement in vehicle development with the introduction of its new Compact Full Spectrum Driving Simulator at its Crewe headquarters, known as the Dream Factory. This latest addition is set to enhance the research and development process for Bentley's luxury vehicles by offering a sustainable alternative to extensive real-world testing. The simulator's introduction marks a strategic move towards minimizing environmental impact, with an estimated saving of 85 tonnes of CO2 per vehicle prototype.
Developed by VI-grade in Italy, a leader in simulator technology, this compact system is poised to play a crucial role in the development of Bentley’s upcoming range of battery electric vehicles. The simulator is capable of accurately assessing various aspects of vehicle comfort such as ride comfort, cabin acoustics, vibration, and seat development. It allows engineers to evaluate ride comfort over simulated road surfaces, including potholes and bumps, significantly reducing the reliance on physical prototypes.
Dr Matthias Rabe, Member of the Board for Engineering at Bentley Motors, highlighted the dual benefits of the simulator, emphasizing not only its technical capabilities but also its contribution to sustainability. According to Dr Rabe, this innovative approach reduces the need for physical prototypes and extensive real-world testing, which traditionally involved shipping cars and personnel to remote locations globally.
Charlie Smith, Virtual Vehicle Engineer at Bentley Motors, expressed enthusiasm about the simulator's introduction, stating it represents a significant leap in Bentley's virtual development capabilities. Smith noted that the system allows for refining core Bentley attributes in a dynamic virtual environment for the first time, offering unprecedented precision in ensuring that every Bentley vehicle delivers the luxury and performance expected by their customers.
The installation of this state-of-the-art driving simulator at Bentley’s Crewe campus underscores the brand's commitment to combining fine craftsmanship with engineering expertise and advanced technology. This move not only exemplifies high-value British manufacturing but also aligns with Bentley's strategic goals towards accelerating product development cycles and enhancing simulation capabilities while reducing reliance on physical prototypes.
Bentley Motors stands as a paragon of luxury car manufacturing, with its Crewe headquarters housing all operations including design, R&D, engineering, and production of its five model lines. The brand's dedication to sustainability and innovation continues to set it apart in the luxury car market.
